Enforce your right as a parent to protect your family

In today’s world, when it comes to protecting the well-being of our children, many parents just like you are faced with an onslaught of media competing for the attention of their young minds. This is not just sexual content, violence and language, we’re talking about. Your kids are being fed innuendos, subliminal messages, indoctrination and social conditioning like never before in history. Filtering services like VidAngel allow you to pre-edit (skip over parts you choose) movies and TV shows giving you peace of mind about what your children are exposed to.

Right now there is another battle waging behind the scenes, and its outcome will directly affect your rights as a parent. Four Hollywood studios (Disney—along with Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, and Lucasfilm) have entered in legal battles with VidAngel, in a case that is sure to set a precedent for the future of the filtering industry. This is not the first time Hollywood has strongly opposed filtering services. After all, they were against the Family Movie Act (FMA), a law designed to empower parents and enable filtering services. The #SaveFiltering petition exists to enforce your right to choose how your family consumes content in the privacy of your own home before Hollywood takes it away.

It is nice to be able to view movies that I otherwise would not want to sit through because of degrading and inappropriate content.

If I buy a car, I can customize it. If I buy a piece of art, I can paint over it. If I buy a song, I can sing to it. If I buy a book, I can underline, cross out remove, paste in, fold. If I buy a movie, I would like to be able to alter it, in my home, to fit my home, to fit me. The idea that I must listen to foul language and watch lewd images simply because the artist included them in the original is like insisting that I read every page of a book.

I would not watch many films with a filtering system provider. It should be up to the consumer how they enjoy a film.

Hollywood does have the right to produce movies however they want. I enjoy many of their movies, but their moral compass is quickly moving far from “Family Friendly”.

They should have the right to show their movies un-edited in the theater, but they DO NOT have the right to tell me how I can watch a movie with my family in the privacy of my home. Airlines have had access to edited movies for years, why don’t we. All to often Hollywood wants to push the limits on the PG and PG13 ratings. Many movies are really good, except for a few minutes of garbage and language that have no bearing on the movie. If those scenes are removed you don’t even notice. I enjoy the right to view a movie how I want by viewing it through VidAngel.

If I peer into my neighbor’s bedroom window then I am at odds with God and US law, let alone that people will say “he’s got issues.” But if I peer into my TV screen and watch someone do the same things there, that’s somehow OK (even though my mind is stimulated either way). I believe neither are wise and that I need to teach my children the same. For our family, being able to watch otherwise good movies while filtering out scenes like that is a game changer for us. We are thankful for VidAngel.
