Enforce your right as a parent to protect your family

In today’s world, when it comes to protecting the well-being of our children, many parents just like you are faced with an onslaught of media competing for the attention of their young minds. This is not just sexual content, violence and language, we’re talking about. Your kids are being fed innuendos, subliminal messages, indoctrination and social conditioning like never before in history. Filtering services like VidAngel allow you to pre-edit (skip over parts you choose) movies and TV shows giving you peace of mind about what your children are exposed to.

Right now there is another battle waging behind the scenes, and its outcome will directly affect your rights as a parent. Four Hollywood studios (Disney—along with Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, and Lucasfilm) have entered in legal battles with VidAngel, in a case that is sure to set a precedent for the future of the filtering industry. This is not the first time Hollywood has strongly opposed filtering services. After all, they were against the Family Movie Act (FMA), a law designed to empower parents and enable filtering services. The #SaveFiltering petition exists to enforce your right to choose how your family consumes content in the privacy of your own home before Hollywood takes it away.

There are some great movies out there that I haven’t been able to show my children (aged 9, 11,12) because of certain content (even if brief) and VidAngel has become our main source to share these great movies with them. We want the right, as parents, to filter content we seem inappropriate, with the intention of letting them see more movies, and I would think these studios would love for them to see them too. Drop the lawsuit, give us the right to protect our children and support VidAngel!

I was so excited to discover VidAngel – HUGE bummer if VidAngel is shut down. We’ll go back to extremely limited ability to watch videos without VidAngel.

Our family LOVES movies but won’t watch sexual, overtly violent or profane movies. Call me Pollyanna, but I remember the day that common decency was the rule in media and sexuality was left to the imagination of the viewer. I don’t ever want to be offended or embarrassed by the movies or TV that I watch. I started filtering my movies at home by taking the video tapes that I purchased, watching them up to an undesirable part, stopping the player and ejecting the movie then physically cutting out the bad parts, and taping the two spliced parts of the video back again. I have over 3000 vHS tapes and 1/2 of them I spliced to edit them. Then came DVD’s and I paid a service to edit them for me or just didn’t buy the movies that had bad parts in them. I have owned a clearplay player since they came out which allows me to edit parts of my movies and the TV Guardian before that which would edit language.

FINALLY along came the best of them all…VidAngel! This is my favorite by far because I buy the movie AND get to filter it myself with dozens of filtering choices at a price I can afford. I can take all the swearing, sex, violence out that I want, or leave what I deem minor offenses in, like explosions or romance that isn’t offensive. Even if I didn’t have young children in the home, I would still edit the movies because I don’t want to be offended by unwanted content either. I want to watch any movie with my whole family and not worry that the content will scar my children. There are some wonderful Hollywood movies that I never would have seen (ie. Shakespeare in Love, The King’s Speech, Saving Private Ryan etc…) if I hadn’t filtered them. Nothing important in the movie is lost but the massive profanity, sex scenes and some violence. There is an enormous slice of movie lovers that will never enjoy certain movies because there will always be content we don’t want to see, even though the movie has so much good in it. PLEASE continue to allow us the right to filter our purchased movies (whether streamed, DVD or Blueray) the way we want to view them. We aren’t asking the movie studios to change their vision. We are asking for the right to watch what we purchase in a way that we deem to be safe for our viewing pleasure and that of our families.
