Enforce your right as a parent to protect your family

In today’s world, when it comes to protecting the well-being of our children, many parents just like you are faced with an onslaught of media competing for the attention of their young minds. This is not just sexual content, violence and language, we’re talking about. Your kids are being fed innuendos, subliminal messages, indoctrination and social conditioning like never before in history. Filtering services like VidAngel allow you to pre-edit (skip over parts you choose) movies and TV shows giving you peace of mind about what your children are exposed to.

Right now there is another battle waging behind the scenes, and its outcome will directly affect your rights as a parent. Four Hollywood studios (Disney—along with Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, and Lucasfilm) have entered in legal battles with VidAngel, in a case that is sure to set a precedent for the future of the filtering industry. This is not the first time Hollywood has strongly opposed filtering services. After all, they were against the Family Movie Act (FMA), a law designed to empower parents and enable filtering services. The #SaveFiltering petition exists to enforce your right to choose how your family consumes content in the privacy of your own home before Hollywood takes it away.

I’m hopeful that filtering services (we’ve been ClearPlay subscribers for years) can provide data to the studios to show that there’s demand for clean entertainment that’s not just for 4 year-olds.

Hollywood’s opposition to VidAngel’s new filtering model is ludicrous. They don’t have a problem with filtering the network’s airing of movies. The networks alter the audio on virtually every movie they broadcast on television and they cut scenes as well. So why wouldn’t they allow a paying customer to stream a movie and filter as they see fit? I don’t see Hollywood suing DVR manufacturers who allow me to skip ahead 30 seconds on a recording and that has a much larger impact on the viewing experience. I get Hollywood’s issues with some of VidAngel’s original business model but now??!! It just seems like they’re operating out of spite.

Although our children are all adults we still prefer to watch movies without vulgar language, nudity/graphic sex scenes or unnecessary graphic violence.

Just like I’m allowed to get a black marker and block obscene words from a book (or tear a whole page out for that matter), the studios shouldn’t care if a private citizen wants to block certain scenes or words from one of their movies. This assumes, of course, that the consumer purchases the movie legally and makes the changes only for their private use. Companies like VidAngel allow just that. The other option is simply to do what my wife and I currently do, which is to not buy these movies at all. I would think the studios would prefer the former option, which gets them paid.

We need to freedom to enjoy movies that are wholesome for the whole family. Hollywood makes more moneyallowing filtering because my family will watch more movies that we otherwise couldn’t. Please save filtering and protect the rights of families.
