Enforce your right as a parent to protect your family

In today’s world, when it comes to protecting the well-being of our children, many parents just like you are faced with an onslaught of media competing for the attention of their young minds. This is not just sexual content, violence and language, we’re talking about. Your kids are being fed innuendos, subliminal messages, indoctrination and social conditioning like never before in history. Filtering services like VidAngel allow you to pre-edit (skip over parts you choose) movies and TV shows giving you peace of mind about what your children are exposed to.

Right now there is another battle waging behind the scenes, and its outcome will directly affect your rights as a parent. Four Hollywood studios (Disney—along with Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, and Lucasfilm) have entered in legal battles with VidAngel, in a case that is sure to set a precedent for the future of the filtering industry. This is not the first time Hollywood has strongly opposed filtering services. After all, they were against the Family Movie Act (FMA), a law designed to empower parents and enable filtering services. The #SaveFiltering petition exists to enforce your right to choose how your family consumes content in the privacy of your own home before Hollywood takes it away.

I should always have the option to screen out objectionable content in my own home.

There are so many movies that I don’t watch and so many more that my family doesn’t watch simply because of one scene or because of some of the language. It’s a shame that some Hollywood studios (Including Disney!!! Aren’t they supposed be one studio that actually cares about children and supports parents!?!?) have decided that they would rather have fewer people view their movies than allow parents the right to choose what is appropriate for their family. I do understand the rights of studios, but what of the rights of families and parents to protect their children. Are they so intent on making sure that my child gets to hear the “f” word or “b” word if they happen to like super hero movies. Do they really feel that it is there obligation to teach my children about sex. The jump from bed to bed, we just met, climb in the tub in the middle of a Batman movie kind of sex? Should it not be up to me to make these sorts of choices for my family and children? Well, we do. We do make the choice to just avoid these movies rather than be faced with garbage. It’s too bad that studios are so concerned with making sure that their content stays in tact, reguardless of the number of fans it alienates.

My kids have begged me for vid angle for the longest time and finally, for Christmas we go a Roku so that we could use vid angel. They were so sad to discover that we couldn’t use it at this time. It is our hope that this will be resolved quickly and that the studios in question will take some time to consider the younger fans and the fans that may love their movies but feel uncomfortable with some of the content that is shoved in our faces in those movies. This is not about trying to infringe upon anyone’s freedom of speach or their right to their own creative content. Rather a plea from a mom of tweens, who do want to see some of these “cool” movies and enjoy the characters they are fans of, without the content that is too mature for them at this time. This is a plea to allow me, as a mom to decide what is right for my children while still supporting the studios that make the movies. While still enjoying the characters that we love. While still allowing others (studios) to express themselves in a way that they feel is appropriate, but not forcing us to pick between not viewing the content they produce at all, or watching content that we feel is not appropriate for our home.

I hope, my family hopes, that the studios will reconsider, or at least that some common ground will be found quickly.

    Thank you.

Paul Leonard- This service is extremely valuable to my family. It allows us to watch movies in our own home the way WE determine i best suited for us (win for us.) It allows us to watch many more movies whose content would normally preclude us from exploring their titles (win for Hollywood.) And it allows everyone to set their own standards (win for everyone.) Please protect this right.

Choice is important, choice shows respect for all viewers. Anything else is about control and dictates away our rights. VidAngel provides options.

I have 5 kids. With out filtering, it makes it difficult to watch movies together as a family.

David Barker Our family has found this to be the perfect way that we can watch movies and programs without bringing in the violence, graphic sex and profanity that often accompanies an otherwise good movie. It does not infringe upon anyone else’s right to view movies in the way they prefer. It protects my children, grandchildren, and me from this stuff. We need this service, and we need to support VidAngel’s fight.

Filtering movies that I own is fair use, and critical to a free digital society!
