Enforce your right as a parent to protect your family

In today’s world, when it comes to protecting the well-being of our children, many parents just like you are faced with an onslaught of media competing for the attention of their young minds. This is not just sexual content, violence and language, we’re talking about. Your kids are being fed innuendos, subliminal messages, indoctrination and social conditioning like never before in history. Filtering services like VidAngel allow you to pre-edit (skip over parts you choose) movies and TV shows giving you peace of mind about what your children are exposed to.

Right now there is another battle waging behind the scenes, and its outcome will directly affect your rights as a parent. Four Hollywood studios (Disney—along with Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, and Lucasfilm) have entered in legal battles with VidAngel, in a case that is sure to set a precedent for the future of the filtering industry. This is not the first time Hollywood has strongly opposed filtering services. After all, they were against the Family Movie Act (FMA), a law designed to empower parents and enable filtering services. The #SaveFiltering petition exists to enforce your right to choose how your family consumes content in the privacy of your own home before Hollywood takes it away.

I’m a middle aged women without children, but HIGHLY believe that families should be able to choose what is appropriate to watch in their own homes. Let kids be kids and not bombarded them with sex and violence at every turn. I remember my mother wouldn’t let me watch Dirty Dancing when it came out just because of 1 scene; my mother did what she thought was right and applaud her for it. Not everything in movies and on tv currently is appropriate for the age that it is being seen at, and it feels a bid inescapable, so let parents do their job! Parents are not here to be ‘best friends’ with their kids, they are there to bring up well adjusted individuals who will be good adults. Don’t tie the hands of parents.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of movies I will never watch due to certain content included in recent films. Media content has become edgier, more obscene, more violent and more sexualized over recent years, making films inappropriate for those with any sort of standard. I guarantee there are millions of consumers who would gladly watch these movies of they were simply able to filter out a handful of specific, often unnecessary, scenes. This is selfishness pain and simple on the part of studios who feel their way is the only way. Studios that care note about shock factor and pushing the envelope, than sharing a story. Isn’t that the purpose of film, to tell a story? Give people the right to experience these stories in a way that lets them enjoy it, without feeling forced to view scenes that may compromise their own choices and feelings, and leaving people feeling violated.

Please allow us to filter movies. I am tired of crude and gruesome movies.

Dear Disney, please let VidAnglel stream your movies. Lately, you company has seemed to care more about profits than your customers. Honestly, what does it hurt if a parent doesn’t want their kid to hear that one word, or see that one thing? It does not take away from your profits to let those kids remain innocent, and have you thought that maybe you’re losing customers by not allowing them to filter? There are a lot of moms who would rather not let her kids watch Disney movies than expose them to content too soon. So, why are you doing this? Please, swallow your pride and let the movies be altered slightly, so that all audiences may enjoy them.
